Jekyll Island, Georgia: A Romantic Weekend Getaway
Historic charm, coastal scenery, and a little time away together.
Sometimes the best getaway doesn't require an airport, a long drive, or months of planning.
For our October 2019 anniversary, we chose Jekyll Island, Georgia, just 45 minutes from home. We booked a suite at the historic Jekyll Island Club, made dinner reservations, and planned a few experiences that would let us enjoy the island at a slower pace.
We explored the island's history by horse-drawn carriage, enjoyed a horseback ride that took us onto the beach, wandered the beautiful grounds, and spent time simply enjoying each other's company.
The hotel was full of character, the staff were wonderful, and the scenery was beautiful. Not everything went according to plan, particularly when it came to dining, but those disappointments didn't define our weekend.
After all, the point wasn't to travel somewhere far away. It was to spend a little time celebrating us.
