Our Experience
After spending the day at the pony vet checks, the Museum of Chincoteague Island, historic Beebe Ranch, exploring downtown, and charging our Tesla, we were ready for something simple.
Ledo Pizza sounded like a nice change of pace.
It turned into one of the most memorable evenings of our trip.
Our server, Aizelya, greeted us with a warm smile and immediately made us feel welcome.
As we talked, we learned she was from Almaty, Kazakhstan, spending the summer in Chincoteague while on break from university.
Naturally, curiosity took over.
We asked about her home country.
Instead of simply answering our questions, she lit up.
When we told her we enjoy mountains, nature, and meeting local people more than checking famous landmarks off a list, she began describing Kazakhstan with an enthusiasm that was absolutely contagious.
By the end of dinner, we weren't just talking about the menu anymore.
We were talking about future adventures.
Before leaving, she handed me her phone so I could find my Facebook profile, and we connected before saying goodbye.
The following day, my Messenger notifications began filling up.
She had sent photographs of Kazakhstan, travel suggestions, and ideas tailored specifically to the kinds of places we'd told her we enjoy visiting. She even apologized for not writing sooner because she'd worked a twelve-hour shift the day before.
It was an incredibly thoughtful gesture from someone we'd only met the night before.
Whether we ever make it to Kazakhstan or not, that's the kind of kindness that stays with you.
