🍽 Dining
Our favorite meal of the week combined outstanding local seafood, exceptional service, and the welcoming atmosphere of a family-owned restaurant. Steamers wasn't just our best dinner in Chincoteague. It became one of the most memorable dining experiences of the entire trip.
We came looking for a casual dinner after a busy day of exploring and found one of the most memorable meals of the trip. Excellent food, incredible value, and a conversation with our server that unexpectedly inspired a future journey.
Fresh raw oysters, excellent fish tacos, and one of our favorite lunches of the week. Friendly service and well-prepared local seafood make Captain Zack's an easy recommendation for anyone visiting Chincoteague.
Ropewalk's waterfront location, excellent service, and relaxing atmosphere made us want to love it. While a few dishes impressed us, the overall food quality didn't consistently match the prices, making this a good spot for drinks and the view, but not our favorite dinner on the island.
🟢 Having a Meltdown
If you're ready for a break from seafood, Having a Meltdown is an easy recommendation. Fresh, made-to-order sandwiches, friendly service, and one of the best Reubens we had in quite a while made this one of our favorite lunches on Chincoteague.
🎟 Experiences
The Museum of Chincoteague Island and historic Beebe Ranch gave us a much deeper understanding for Pony Week. Together, they turned the Pony Swim from an event we watched into a tradition we understood.
⭐ Also Worth a Stop
🟢 Blackfin Island Grill & Tapas Lounge
Even during the crowds of Pony Week, Blackfin delivered friendly service and outstanding food. The poke bowl and cream of crab soup were two of the best dishes we enjoyed all week, making this an easy recommendation.
🟢 AJ's on the Creek
Excellent breakfast, generous portions, and genuine hospitality made AJ's one of our favorite stops of the week. Sarah's thoughtful service turned a good meal into a memorable experience, and we'd happily start another Chincoteague morning here.
🟢 Pony Tails Taffy
A fun stop for homemade fudge, saltwater taffy, and a little vacation nostalgia. Friendly staff, plenty of sweet treats, and yes... vacation calories still don't count.
🟢 Island Creamery
No trip to Chincoteague feels complete without a stop at Island Creamery. Homemade ice cream, generous portions, and a line that's absolutely worth joining. Vacation calories don't count anyway.
🟡 Smokin' Pig BBQ (Midway, Georgia)
A reliable barbecue stop just off I-95 that's become one of our favorite places to break up the drive through coastal Georgia. Good barbecue, generous portions, and quick service make it worth the short detour.
🟡 Maria's Family Restaurant
Friendly service, a good salad bar, and tasty pasta made Maria's a decent first-night stop after a long day of travel. Not every dish impressed us, but we'd still consider it a reasonable choice for a casual meal.
🔴 Mr. Baldy's
Seeing "market price" on the menu led us to expect exceptionally fresh seafood, but our meal didn't live up to those expectations. Tough scallops, average entrées, and a price that didn't match the experience left us disappointed. With so many outstanding restaurants on Chincoteague, we'd spend our dining dollars elsewhere.
🏡 Lodging
A comfortable home base in an excellent location made Creekside Paradise a good choice for our Pony Week stay. While we enjoyed our week here, several maintenance and communication issues are worth knowing before you book.
🟢 Tru by Hilton Florence
A clean, modern hotel that's perfect for breaking up a long drive. Comfortable accommodations, convenient access to I-95, and complimentary overnight EV charging made this an easy stop on our way to Chincoteague.
🟢 Hampton Inn Benson
An ideal overnight stop along I-95. Comfortable rooms, complimentary Level 2 EV charging, and Tesla Superchargers on-site made it an easy recommendation for road trippers, whether you're driving electric or not.

🟢 Driving an EV to Chincoteague
Our 1,400-mile round trip from southeast Georgia proved that visiting Chincoteague in an electric vehicle was easier than we expected. From convenient public chargers on the island to complimentary overnight hotel charging and reliable fast charging along the route, the battery never dictated our vacation.
